Agape Ambassadors

Athlete's Code of Conduct

Overview

Agape Christian Academy (ACA) expects students to live by Biblical standards. God's Word tells us to be wise (Eph 5:15) and to conduct ourselves with wisdom, especially toward outsiders (Col 4:5). As ambassadors for Christ (2 Cor 5:20), our behavior needs to reflect Christ both on and off campus.

Students and the Administration should respect all school property as stewards of God's creation. Students are expected to respect school authority (Rom 13:1-2) and show respect toward the administration, faculty, staff, and fellow students. They should set the example in speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity (1 Tim 4:12), reflecting wisdom from above and personal holiness (James 3:17-18).

ACA encourages students to initiate personal confession and to seek forgiveness and repentance whenever this code is violated. When a student and/or parent comes forward for help, the administration will extend appropriate grace and support (Gal 6:1-2, 2 Cor 1:12).

Unity among believers is vital for making Christ known to the unsaved world (John 17:21-23). We are committed to our relationship with Jesus Christ first, followed by our relationships with one another. This ACA Code of Conduct aims to foster such unity within the school.

Code of Conduct

As Ambassadors for Christ…

Respect toward officials, players, and coaches is expected. Inappropriate language or conduct in the classroom or on the athletic field will be dealt with by the Principal, Athletic Director, and/or coaches.

We commit to demonstrating Christ-like behavior in view of God's mercy. "I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God — this is your spiritual act of worship" (Romans 12:1)

We agree to follow God's Word rather than be influenced by the world we live in. "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." (Romans 12:2)

We are committed to be holy in our speech and behavior. "Just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do." (1 Peter 1:15)

We agree that we must be doers of God's word every day. "Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says." (James 1:22)

We will put on a new self in Christ and become different from the world. "Put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness." (Ephesians 4:24)

We commit to having a new attitude that regards others as more important than ourselves. "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others." (Philippians 2:3-4)

We agree to glorify God in all that we do. "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." (1 Corinthians 10:31)

We will walk in love just as Christ loved us. "Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God." (Ephesians 5:1-2)

We will accept one another just as they are because Christ has also accepted us. "Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God." (Romans 15:7)

We are committed to building up one another through the words we use in our conversations. "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." (Ephesians 4:29)

As Student Athletes…

We recognize that our behavior at practices and games will have an impact, therefore we agree to the following:

We will treat other team members, coaches, parents, and members of other schools (team, coaches, parents, etc.) with love and respect. "Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God." (1 John 4:7)

We will participate in every game, practice, drill, and conditioning with all our hearts. "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving." (Colossians 3:23-24)

We will listen and obey our parents, coaches, teachers, and student leaders. "Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility toward all men." (Titus 3:1-2)

We will persevere through challenges as a team. "Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain." (1 Corinthians 15:58)

Eligibility

The following criteria will be used to determine a student's eligibility for participation in Agape Athletics:

• The parent has signed the Permission to Participate form and has agreed to pay the participation fee.

• The student must maintain a minimum grade of "C" in all courses (or the equivalent) to fully participate in Agape athletics. A failing grade (below 60%) on a report card will result in the student's disqualification from participation for the subsequent quarter. Students with a "D (60-69.9%)," will be permitted to practice and train with athletic teams, but forbidden from participating in games and meets.

• Students who are absent on the day of a game are not permitted to participate in or attend a game on that given day.

• All students participating in an ACA sport must have had a doctor's examination within the last twelve months. (OHSAA Medical form)

• All students must agree to abide by the Athlete Student Code of Conduct and adhere to the practice guidelines established by the coaches at Agape Christian Academy.

• Students who receive two (2) warning or detention slips in a week will miss all athletic activities scheduled for the following week.

Communication Expectations

Parent-Coach Communication: If a concern arises, parents should wait 24 hours after a game before initiating a discussion with a coach. This allows for prayerful reflection and ensures respectful, productive conversations.

Student-Athlete Questions: Athletes are encouraged to approach their coaches directly with questions or concerns. Learning to communicate responsibly is part of their growth.

Conflict Resolution: Any interpersonal conflict should follow the Matthew 18 principle: address the individual privately first, then involve a coach or administrator if needed.

GameChanger App

Agape Athletics utilizes the GameChanger app for team communication and scheduling. This is our primary tool for keeping athletes and parents informed about practices, games, transportation, and other important updates. You can download the app at: https://gc.com/download

Expectations for Using GameChanger:

Timely Responses: Student-athletes and parents should regularly check the app and respond promptly to availability requests.

Respectful Messaging: All messages and comments within the app must reflect Christlike character. Inappropriate language or tone will result in removal from the app and further consequences.

Calendar Awareness: Game and practice schedules are posted in advance. It is the responsibility of the student-athlete and family to monitor these and notify the coach of any conflicts.

Official Athletics Calendar

The official athletics calendar is published and maintained on the school website at www.agapeca.com. This calendar serves as the authoritative source for all scheduled games, practices, and team events. Students and parents are expected to regularly check the website calendar for the most current information, as it will reflect any updates or changes made by the athletic department.
